Why is it important to be and/or utilize Floor Covering Professionals? Technically, a professional is 'a person doing something for pay'. We prefer to think of ourselves as TRUE professionals - a group who has 'advanced study and specialized training' - who work efficiently, take pride in their work and strive to advance our training and our livelihood every day - in the floor covering industry. Floor coverings consist of many surfaces - they include: carpet, resilient (linoleum, rubber, vinyl and other 'linoleum-type' products), resinous (epoxy), hardwood, laminate, ceramic tile, stone, artificial turf and sports surfaces as well as many other types of floor coverings. Installing these products is the work of Floorlayers. They install a wide range of decorative floor covering in commercial buildings - from offices, hospitals, laboratories, retail shops, hotels and casinos - to homes and churches. Our education extends well beyond our apprenticeship. Much as architects and designers are required to obtain Continuing Education Units to maintain their accreditation and certifications, the members of INSTALL Kansas City are required to attend Journeyperson Upgrade classes. In these classes we are kept aware of new products (and their installation procedures) as well as maintain our safety certifications (First Aid and CPR and OSHA). Along with our Safety certification is the real test of an installers'
professionalism - The INSTALL
Certification. Members of the AIA (American Institute of Architects),
the IIDA (International Interior Designers Association), electricians, plumbers
and many others require certification to work on or complete their projects.
